A game room for the entire family's entertainment.

Designing a family game room and family
computer game room
is a fun project!
The options are
unlimited
and ongoing.....

If your game room will be for the whole family, then it should be a family project to make it a room for the entire family to enjoy!  Determine what each family member enjoys the most as entertainment and fun. And what games will "really" be played the most.  Try to bring all your ideas and desires together and then compromise to make your game room or recreation room complete or at least an enjoyable beginning.

Of course, the room will only hold so much, as will the budget, so there are things that may have to be added over time.  But this will keep the room growing with changes!

To make your game room decor blend with your changes, and there will be changes, you can design the room to accept any type of furnishing. Most any decorating is acceptable in a game room, you can mix many different themes from the past to present and your room will look great!

The walls could be multi-colored with a color scheme that will blend with most any decor.  If you have small children, semi- gloss or high-gloss paint may work best by allowing you to wash hand prints off the walls.

Add game room or recreational art, posters, frames and family photos to the walls.  Cover the windows with protective window treatment such as blinds.

If you want your flooring to be carpet, Indoor/Outdoor or a low pile textured carpet is good choice, you will not have to be concerned as much with the high traffic around your game tables and furnishing since this style of carpet will not show your path of traffic like a plush carpet.  Tile can be a relatively inexpensive flooring.  But you should keep in mind the traffic your room will have and what type of tile can handle the beaten paths you will  make through out your game room.

If you have concrete floors or foundation, the best maintenance free floor covering is epoxy coating or a stain.  You can paint the concrete floor with the epoxy coating.  It is sold at all home improvement stores.  Epoxy coating comes in several colors and can be purchased  with multi-colored specks to add to the coating if you prefer.  Stained concrete floors are beautiful.  The color choices are numerous. It is also sold in medium to dark transparent colors.  These floors are so easy to keep clean, you'll never have to worry about spills and stains.  Adding decorative rugs to these floors accents beautifully and helps with the acoustics!

I have a home gym in our game room.  I thought it might be out of place but I am pleasantly surprised how much use it is getting from just being so easily accessible.  Our guest even use it while waiting on their next turn during a game of pool!  And it only takes up about a 4'x4' space.
